Former Off the Beaten Path gutted to make way for saloon

Crews under the supervision of Jon Sherman Construction lifted a conical roof from the turret of the former Off the Beaten Path Bookstore and Coffeehouse building on Seventh Street. The building is being extensively remodeled to accommodate a new nightspot — The Ghost Ranch Saloon.

A flat roof will replace the turret. The existing siding will be painted shades of brown and tan. Red brick accents will be added to complete the look of a period Western building.
The interior of the building has been completely gutted, down to the studs. The downstairs kitchen has been removed, to make way for a more modern kitchen as well as dressing rooms and a green room for performing artists.

The stage will be located in the southwest corner of the building, adjacent to the turret.
Amy Garris of Old West Management in Steamboat Springs said in February that musical acts booked at Ghost Ranch will be varied and not just country western bands, as the name of the business might imply.

A construction foreman on the site Friday said an optimistic date for opening the saloon is Halloween, but the project may take longer to complete.
The building was purchased in November 2007 from former Off the Beaten Path owners Dick and Leslie Ryan for $2.1 million. The owner of The Ghost Ranch Saloon is a California almond farmer, Jean Sagouspe.

Off the Beaten Path is moving two blocks away to Ninth Street, where the new location also is undergoing interior remodeling. The Ryans purchased the former Fair Exchange building this year from Kevin and Jane Bennett for $1 million on behalf of new bookstore owners Ron and Sue Krall. The Ryans will effectively be the landlords for the new owners of their former business.
